Evidence & Data Proving ROI
A University of Waterloo thesis, extending prior CHI work, compared speech recognition vs. touchscreen typing on a smartphone for both composition (inventing a phrase) and transcription (copying a given phrase). It reports:
When composing, “speech is 29% faster than typing.”
Interpreting that as time: if typing takes 100 seconds, speech takes about 71 seconds (≈ 29 seconds saved).
That’s not exactly 33%, but it’s in the same neighborhood as “about a third.”

A Stanford/Baidu/UW Study found speech recognition was ~2.93× faster than smartphone keyboard typing for English transcription (153 WPM vs 52 WPM).
